Euro 2012 – Semi Finals Predictions (and aftermath)

Euro 2012 Semi Finals Predictions:

Spain vs Portugal

I am going to stick my head out and again predict Spain to crash out from the tournament. I thought France could do it but an early Xabi Alonso goal changed the context of the game and allow Spain to pass the game to death before grabbing a late penalty to put the result beyond doubt.

I believe C.Ronaldo has found his form and he will be a major threat in the semi final, more so he is so used to playing against spanish in club level that his goal scoring potency will shine through.

Predictions :  Portugal Through

Germany vs Italy

Germany dispatched Greece emphatically in the quarterfinal with a totally new attacking line up and it showed their strength in squad depth. Against Italy i would believe Mario Gomez will return to the starting striker role and continue his good form in the tournament . This guy is amazingly skillful and quick for his size and should cause plenty of trouble for the Italy defence.

Even though Italy played brilliantly in their quarterfinal, i believe it was actually England who made them look better than they really were. Hodgson was wrong to use Gerrard as a defensive midfielder because he was never effective as one even for Liverpool. As a result, Pirlo and co bossed the midfield and created bucket load of chances only for their strikers to waste them all. Italian strikers have been wasteful so far in the tournament and against the german great wall Manuel Neuer, it will mean they wont make the final.

Predictions :  Germany Through

Semi Final Actual Results (Aftermath)

Spain beat Portugal on penalties

Italy beat Germany 2-1

My predictions record after Semifinal stage : Correct (12) – Wrong (18)
